Desserts

Desserts are the center-piece of Match-4. Desserts can be created by matching candies into special configurations, they may also be released from dispensers. Many desserts cannot be created, but can be released from dispensers or used as boosters. Desserts supply the primary offensive tools in the game by producing special effects. Each dessert has its own effect. In Match-4, most desserts can be activated in 2 different ways, one by swiping and the other by double tapping.

The 2 fundamental types of desserts are elective and booster. The elective desserts can be created during gameplay by matching candies into special configurations. Elective desserts can be activated in 2 different ways, one by swiping and the other by double tapping. Booster desserts can not be created and they can only be activated by double tapping. Both elective and booster desserts can populate or be dispensed onto the board. Also, Gold Bars can be traded for both types of desserts before the start of each level, however, only booster can be traded for Gold Bars during gameplay.

Name Type DT Effect
Mousse Elective Called a ‘cherry bomb’. A bomb clears a 4 x 4 area.

Swipe Effect: Called a ‘mousse lob’. In the direction swiped, the seven hexagons formed in a circle lose a layer of jelly as gummy fish are released. Any of the hexagons without jelly, but with a blocker, results in a layer removed from the blocker. Gummy fish give priority to jelly. Can be useful to pass Jelly order levels by removing jelly on hard to reach hexagons, without having to worry about removing the entire blocker first. In any given direction, the mousse lob provides slightly longer reach, than the cherry bomb, making the mousse lob useful at targeting tricky blockers.

Formation: Creatable only in ‘a la carte’ levels.

Fool Elective Bomb clears a 5 x 6 area.

Swipe Effect: A beam of width three (3) hexagons is cast in the direction of the swipe. Used to target blockers in a particular direction. Fool’s are the most common dessert in Match 4.

Cherry Cheesecake Elective Called a ‘chocolate cherry wave’. Horizontal beams of width one (1) hexagon are cast over every row of the board at least six (6) rows away from the source. Good at targeting blockers from long range.

Swipe Effect: Called a ‘cherry cheesecake avalanche’. A North West, North East, South West or South East swipe casts a sector shaped avalanche in that direction. A North or South swipe casts an avalanche of width five (5) hexagons in the said directions. Good at targeting a large area of blockers at short range.

Trifle Elective Called a ‘trifle wave’. Horizontal beams of width one (1) hexagon are cast over every other row in succession. Very effect at inflicting damage over large areas.

Swipe Effect: Called a ‘coloring bomb’. Swiping over the trifle and any adjacent candy, all candies of a random color are converted to the color of the candy that was swiped. Extremely useful in Fence levels; during cascading, layers are removed from the fences, and if lucky, many other desserts can be spawned.

Log Cone Elective Called a ‘super star’. A beam of width five (5) hexagons is cast in all six (6) directions in succession. A super star is most effective in the middle of the board and near the target area.

Swipe Effect: Called a ‘color ray’. Swiping over the log cone and any adjacent candy, all candies of the swiped candy color are cleared and emit a beam in a random direction of width one (1) hexagon. On large boards, nothing produces more damage than the color ray.

Affogato Booster Called a ‘big bomb’. A bomb clears a 7 x 8 area.
Cake Booster Called a ‘tri-star’. A beam of width three (3) hexagons is cast in all three (3) directions simultaneously. Either North, South West, South East, with 50% chance, or, South, North West, North East, with 50% chance.
Parfait Booster Called a ‘kiwi wave’. Vertical beams of width one (1) hexagon are cast over every column of the board at least three (3) columns away from the source. Most effective near either side of the board.
Orange Custard Booster Called a ‘custard wave’. Vertical beams of width one (1) hexagon are cast over every other column in succession.
Mint Baubles Booster A mint bauble UFO fly’s over the board and delivers three (3) bombs to random locations, each clears a 5 x 6 area. It is unpredictable, could cause a lot of havoc or produce very little if bombs miss the board.
Tiramisu Booster Called the ‘raspberry stars’. A tiramisu fly’s over the board and shoots six (6) raspberries in succession at random locations, upon contact with the board each raspberry emits a beam of width (1) hexagon in each direction, total six (6). The tiramisu is a reliably powerful booster, especially on larger boards.
Molten Pudding Booster Called the ‘blueberry drums’. Two (2) blueberry drums, one from the bottom left and one from the bottom right, each clear every item on the board. Molten Pudding has maximum power when any board is mostly populated with blockers.
Fish Roulade Booster A fish roulade releases special striped gummy fish that swim from one hex to another. For both the source and target hex, a layer of Jelly (which is given priority) or the layer of a blocker is removed. All the source and target hexes are chosen randomly, often many layers are removed from some hexes while other hexes may feel little impact.
Popcorn Booster Random hexes grow popcorn kernels, when the popcorn is full size, the hex is cleared and the popcorn pops off of the board.

Gummy fish are very prevalent in Match 4 Crush. Swiping the mousse dessert releases gummy fish and the fish roulade booster releases striped gummy fish on to the board.

Both types of gummy fish remove layers of jelly or layers from blockers, always giving priority to jelly. When gummy fish are released they clear a layer and swim off of the board. When striped gummy fish are released they clear a layer, then swim to another hex where they clear a second layer and dive back into the board.

Desserts can be combined to produce special amplified effects. The booster desserts can not be switched with each other because they can not be swiped, only double tapped. However, two (2) elective desserts can be switched and an elective dessert can swipe over a booster dessert to create amplified effects. Regardless of the combination, when any elective dessert swipes over any booster dessert, the elective dessert produce a preset effect while the booster dessert produces its normal effect.
